About the Book

This novel in verse is based on the author’s grandmother. The main character’s name is Fefa and she struggles with dyslexia and was told by doctors that she would never be able to read or write. Fefa is given a blank book by her mother, in which she begins to write words. Soon what she learns will help save her family.


This book teaches readers about learning disabilities, family, love and cuban culture. The book includes beautiful poetry that can be used to analyze during instruction and appeals to a wide audience of readers as Fefa and her family face some daily struggles that can be easily related to.
