Podcasts

Podcasting is continually rising. It’s great for sharing information and staying informed by the use of audio recording. Podcasts are created to share information on just about anything! In the educational setting podcasts are being used by educators and students alike. When looking into podcast creation, it is important to find reliable hosting platforms. Below you will learn about the pros and cons of some of the top podcast websites I have experimented with.

Podcasting Platforms

SoundCloud

Soundcloud Basic is free and has 3 hours of upload time. In addition it provides statistics and embedding options. It is primarily for musicians, but can also host podcasts. It’s great for beginners that are just looking to share their podcasts and gather an audience. One con would be that if you need to upgrade to a paid plan, you must pay a yearly fee.

Podbean

Podbean offers a lot on its free account. You have up to 5 hours of free recording and 100GB of bandwidth per month. It’s also great for on the go users as it works on iOS, Android, and Alexa. It is easy to use and if interested, the plan prices are reasonable. Overall, Podbean is great for beginners because it’s simple and easy to use, but if you plan on doing more, premium bandwidth is only available with a plan.

Anchor

Anchor is a simple website to use for anyone beginning to record podcasts. Signing up is as quick and easy as it gets. I have previously recorded several podcasts on this website and totally recommend it to anyone. You have the option to record right on the website or upload an audio. You can organize your podcasts by seasons and episodes. That aspect is very helpful for those that do frequent recording. Also, you have the ability to add music in the background. I found that very helpful to help set the mood of the podcast. In addition it gives statistics such as the number of listeners. Did I mention it’s 100% free? One con would be that it’s known to be an experimental site for users, and therefore may not get you the listeners you’re looking for.

My partner and I both have experience in using Anchor and like it for its simplicity. We found that it's the perfect podcast platform to continue getting our feet wet.

Hello Deyanira,

Podcasts have not only enhanced the way we connect with our scholars, but also have revolutionized the way we increase student engagement. Being able to increase learning connectivity and accessibility offers endless possibilities. It was a great learning experience collaborating with you!

Thanks for embedding your podcast. It made it really easy to access and was a good reminder to make all things easily accessible to our users. Several other classmates (myself included) used links that open up in a new window; some required me to log in or create an account before I could listen. I can see where that would be a deterrent for my potential listeners.

Loved your podcast. It sounded like you had fun and the content was spot on.

A) LOVE your site setup!

B) Enjoyed your music at the beginning of your podcast - fun touch!

C) Libraries are a central point of each campus - we have a mighty job that can do so much.

D) Enjoyed listening to troubleshooting tips, translating, and using Boolean search strategies.
