About the Book
Last Stop on Market Street is a touching book that invites us on a bus ride and walk with a young boy named CJ and his grandmother. Along the way, this inquisitive little boy questions his grandmother about their things they have, don’t have, and their surroundings. In response, Nana teaches him to be appreciative of what he has and learn to view things in a positive way.
The book has a beautiful jacket with a double page spread showing the “fire breathing” bus CJ and his Nana ride. Inside the book, the colorful illustrations support imagery and sensory aspects of the text. The setting takes place in a city that could be any any city and has characters (some faceless) that could be anyone, making it possible for readers to see their home or the faces of people they know in the illustrations. This book shows diversity by including characters of different shapes, colors, abilities, and disabilities. The text of the book can be used to discuss themes such as positivity, charity, seeing the beauty around you, and being grateful.
